Polar Pug Rescue volunteers often reach out and help the local
Anchorage Animal Care and Control Center. As a rescue
organization we work closely with the shelter providing care to
those pets that are in need of medical assistance or behavior
training that may be beyond what the shelter can provide.

This rehabilitation we provide gives the dogs hope of finding a
family that they otherwise would not have had. Anchorage
Animal Control does an awesome job with the many strays and
owner surrenders that they get daily but some are in need of
care beyond their means. They then reach out to the rescue
organizations for help.

This community need is the reason for our "and Friends"
portion of our rescue. We help any and every Pug that comes
our way and then help other "friends" from the shelter that
are in need when we can.
This puppy came to Animal Control as an
owner surrender at 6 weeks old. We
fostered her and socialized her until her
forever home came along.
When the Animal Control has cases of neglect,
abuse, abandonment or hoarding we will often help
with the care of the dogs. Sometimes they are in
need of a good grooming to remove mats, such as in
the picture to the right. Other times they may
need to be fostered in an environment to help with
their medical or behavioral needs or lack of
socialization. Some of these dogs are returned to
the shelter to find their homes and some of the
more needy ones often stay in our rescue when the
shelter can't meet their needs. The pictures to the
right are 3 dogs from a recent hoarding case.
There were 19 dogs total that were surrendered
and were in desperate need of grooming and
socialization.

4 remained with Polar Pug Rescue; Midget,
Mumbles, Prince and Moppet. The other 15 found
their forever homes through the shelter.

These babies to the left were abandoned in their
home when their owner was evicted. They were
about 3 weeks old when they and their Mama were
picked up by animal control officers.

We fostered them through their weaning, supplying
them with good puppy food and lots of socialization.
Their Mama was amazing and took special care of
her babies. There are so many fun and emotional
rewards when helping such innocent creatures.
